When I started this blog, I wanted to focus mostly on long form original posts and commentary, but due to various personal constraints on my time and computer access, it quickly devolved mostly into reblogs of other people’s work. As my time has become even more constrained as of late, updating the blog regularly in even this way has become more effort than it’s worth. This is why I, with heavy heart, must inform you that the blog is going on indefinite hiatus. I believe this hiatus will allow me to focus on my more serious writing, which I will be sure to update you on when I make my return to these merry interwebs of ours. Robert L. Washington III, the very talented writer who wrote the first eighteen issues of Static for Milestone, has passed away at age 47 after a series of heart attacks.

He was a gifted writer, with a deft touch at both drama and humor, who had mostly left comics and had fallen on some rough times since the Milestone years. But signs were good that he was getting back on his feet when this happened.

This is horrible news. It’s a terrible tragedy for Robert, for his friends and family. And it’s also tragic that one of the key voices of possibly the greatest teen POC character created in decades is gone, along with the great Dwayne McDuffie, who passed last year from an equally sudden medical emergency.

Rest in peace, Robert.  And thank you for sharing your gifts with all of us.

A writing legend passed away.

The thing about Ray Bradbury is he was an advocate for the human imagination. He was able to, perhaps he was compelled to, bring vistas and scenarios from his mind to the page in a manner that made the incredible seem not just plausible, but immediate and unassailable. His superpower was his imagination, and he inspired that wonderful thing in his readers, as well.


The best way to honor him and to remember him is to do something creative, today. Write that story, draw that sketch, play that song, wear that outfit, think that thought that came from you and only you.

That’s the way to say thanks to a writer like him.

We really lost a great one.
